Solopreneur of the Future Is a Practicing Futurist
The solopreneur of the future is not just a person without employees. At the highest level, they are an autonomous agent who chooses directions themselves, tests hypotheses, and rapidly restructures their activities.
AI dramatically reduces the cost of executing many functions. But the solopreneur's main advantage lies not only in labor automation, but in shortening the entire value creation logistic chain.
Instead of idea β approvals β budget β team β development β report, a short loop emerges: idea β MVP β reality β conclusion.
Such a solopreneur is forced to think like a new type of futurist: spotting new vectors before they become mainstream, assessing systemic consequences, and testing the future themselves.
At the same time, not every solopreneur is a futurist. A narrow specialist can successfully work alone within an existing market. A futurist is a more complex category of autonomous practitioner capable of creating new trajectories rather than just serving already known demand.
Solopreneurship also solves a major problem for the futurist themselves: a company is not always able to reliably evaluate a technology whose experience does not yet exist, meaning it is not always ready to pay for exploring uncertainty. An autonomous futurist can become the client for their own hypotheses, test them through their own activities, and fund further research with successful results.
Their working environment becomes their own laboratory, and experimentation becomes a way of exploring the future. The journal preserves context, while AI agents can take on a significant portion of external communication.
